Mat 11:14-15 “And if you are willing to receive it, he (John the Baptist) is Elijah who is to come. He who has ears to HEAR let him HEAR!”
I was listening to a preacher on TV the other day. He made a statement that really bothered me. He said something to the effect that Elijah the prophet is coming and will call fire down from Heaven again. This really worried me. First, we should pay very close attention to the words of Jesus in Mathew 11:14-15. Jesus said “if you have ears to hear, let them hear!” Jesus wants you to hear these words that He spoke; that John the baptist is the coming again of Elijah.
I have heard a few preachers, and I have even said it myself in my ignorance, that Elijah is going to be one of the two witnesses at the end. I think this is what the preacher was saying as well. After thinking about this for awhile, I believe Jesus helped me to learn some things. First, the book of Revelation says that the 2 witnesses have FIRE that COMES OUT of their MOUTH – not from HEAVEN. People have only guessed at who the two witnesses will be; the bible does not say elijah or enoch will be them. People generally say this because they did not die. As someone said the bible rule is “it is appointed once to die, then the judgement.” However, in the rapture people do not die, nor do the 144,000 in Revelation.
The Jewish people today have tradition that expects Elijah to be coming to visit them. They are still looking for the prophecy of Malachi to be fulfilled still. The problem is that Jesus is their Messiah, and they reject Him still; therefore, they have not received Jesus’ words. May God bless them with truth and deliver them from evil! Don’t forget that the endtimes are called the “Time of Jacob’s trouble.” Jeremiah 30:4-7 ”And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah. For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it.”
John the Baptist fulfilled the scripture about Elijah coming before the great and dreadful day of the Lord…which was when Jesus came the first time. The city of Jerusalem(Yah’rushaliam) was destroyed, and the Temple destroyed because they rejected their Messiah and the Word of GOD. There was darkness over the Earth when they killed Jesus, fulfilling the day of darkness prophecy. It was a day of gloom because many people were lost because they rejected Messiah Jesus (Yahushua). It was a dark day for the people who would not listen and hear the WORDS of GOD.
Please re-examine your doctrine so people are not deceived by the false prophet!
Elijah the Prophet already came again in John the Baptist. The only person to call FIRE down from HEAVEN next will be the FALSE Prophet of the book of Revelation – that person will be promoting the anti-messiah (antichrist)
I do not know the identity of the two prophet in Revelation, and I guess it is possible that Elijah could be one of them. We should be looking for the coming of Jesus the Messiah, not the prophet. If we are ready now, we have no need of a prophet. Jesus already gave us His words – which is the Word of God. We should be practicing and acting upon Jesus’ words. Jesus is coming from Heaven in Power and Great Glory and every eye shall see HIM coming from the HEAVEN. He will NOT be reincarnated or anything like that. HE is alive now in Heaven and will be returning with Holy angels and saints.
WAKE UP!!!
Matthew 11 (New King James Version)
Matthew 11
John the Baptist Sends Messengers to Jesus
1 Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished commanding His twelve disciples, that He departed from there to teach and to preach in their cities.
2 And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of[a] his disciples 3 and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?”
4 Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: 5 The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.”
7 As they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 8 But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. 9 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. 10 For this is he of whom it is written:
‘ Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.’[b]
11 “Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14 And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come. 15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
16 “But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions, 17 and saying:
‘ We played the flute for you,
And you did not dance;
We mourned to you,
And you did not lament.’
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”[c]
Woe to the Impenitent Cities
20 Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be[d] brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”

If this is the manner in which God fulfilled the prophecy of Elijah’s return, and God is the same (operating with the same M.O.), isn’t it possible that we Christians are also mistaken about the manner in which Christ will return? Here’s my reasoning…
- Elijah ascended (bodily) into heaven [2 Kings 2:1-11]
- Malachi prophesied that Elijah would return [Malachi 3:10-24]
- Spirit & Power (of Elijah) was born in John the Baptist [Luke 1:17]
- Christ confirms that “Elijah” had returned from heaven [Matthew 11:13]
…However, as you’ve supported there were many people whose gazes were incorrectly **fixed upon the sky** hoping to see Elijah descend from heaven visibly. So when this prophecy was fulfilled many could not “receive” it. Many saw John every day but they could not “see” him.
—
Now let’s look at the same similarities for Christ…
- Christ confirmed that he came from heaven (through birth) [John 6:41]
- Christ prophesied that the Son of Man will return [Matthew 24]
- Christ ascended (bodily) into heaven [Acts 1:9]
…However, again notice that two witnesses ask why the apostles are **fixing their gazes upon the sky** (as if unnecessarily), saying “the same Yeshua [Jesus] would return in a **like manner** as you have seen him go…” Recal that Christ confirms that he descended from heaven through birth.
Christ prophesied that the Son of Man’s return would be “as a thief”; meaning unexpectedly or “off guard” [1 Thessalonians 5:2], and yet (scripture also says) everyone will see him [Rev. 1:7]. The only way these two contradictory conditions are true is if Christ experiences the same as what John experienced, during the Second Coming: everyone will see him but not “see” him until it is too late.
The Holy Spirit of God operated through Christ, and Christ gave us his Holy Spirit and prayed that we would be one in him (and he in us) as he is one in the Father (and he in him), plus Christ often referred to the “Son of Man” in the 3rd person…so isn’t it possible we are still incorrectly **gazing in the sky**, when the Father will send the Spirit & Power of Christ to be “born again” in a new person [with a "new" name (Rev. 3:12)] (which would also explain why Christ didn’t – himself – know when he would return)?

Jesus is going to come back Just as He promised! You are twisting the scriptures. Such as when you quoted to angels as saying “Why you stand gazing at the heavens?” The scripture is ACTS 1:11 “They also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”
“THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE” There is only One CHRIST and that is JESUS. He is it FOREVER. People like elijah as a prophet can be many, because being a prophet is a gift and calling from God…there can be many prophets, and there has been. However, there can only be ONE Christ (MESSIAH). The prophecies in scriptures do not leave room for more than one person as the Messiah/Christ is the ONE and Only SON OF GOD, ruler, whose existance is from OLD. Micah 5:2 “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be Ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of Old, from Everlasting. “
THE CHRIST (Jewish MESSIAH) Jesus is NOT going to be reincarnated. He is coming back from Heaven to the Earth and EVERYONE will see Him coming in POWER and GREAT GLORY. Jesus lived, died, and then came back from the dead and ascended in the presence of 500 people. The angels affirmed that He will indeed come BACK from HEAVEN just the way He left.
Read the detail description of God and the Law coming down on Mount Sinai in POWER. When the KING of GLORY (JESUS) comes to bring GOD’s Kingdom to the earth, it will be GREATER than that!
Exodus 19:16-19 God’s terrifying presence on Mount Sinai.
“Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp tremble. And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly. And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice.”
a. Thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud: These signs of power and glory signaled the presence of God. The whole environment must have seemed terrifying to the people. b. The sound of the trumpet was very loud: Beyond all one could see, hear, and feel, then came a long, loud blast of a trumpet, a trumpet coming not from the camp but from heaven itself – no wonder all the people who were in the camp trembled. c. Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God: Then, Moses led the people right up to the barrier at the very foot of Mount Sinai, where they could see, smell, hear, and virtually taste the fire which engulfed the mountain – as well as feel the earth shake under their feet when the whole mountain quaked greatly. d. When the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder: In the midst of all this, the sound of the trumpet blast became longer and louder and longer and louder, until Moses spoke to God – perhaps asking Him to stop.
Mathew 24:27 “27. then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. ”
Luke 21:26-27 “Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 27. then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. “
Matthew 26:64 “Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. “
